Merino Wool
New Zealand
This exquisitely soft, ultra-fine fibre is obtained solely from the douvet of merino sheep: a tiny quantity of pristine fibre that Mèrite processes with the care merited by all the most precious things.
Fitness by nature
Merino wool comes from Merino sheep, a breed prized for producing some of the finest and most versatile wool in the world. Unlike ordinary wool, merino fibres are exceptionally fine—typically measuring between 17 and 19 microns in diameter—resulting in a material that is soft against the skin, naturally elastic, and comfortable to wear all day.
Merino sheep are traditionally raised in regions with extreme and changeable climates, from the high plains of Australia to parts of New Zealand and South Africa. Hot days, cold nights, wind, and exposure have shaped a fibre designed for balance. To adapt, the sheep grow a fleece with a natural crimp that traps air, regulating body temperature while remaining breathable. This structure allows merino wool to insulate in the cold, release heat when it’s warm, and manage moisture with ease.
Wearing a garment made from fine merino wool—whether layered close to the body or worn on its own—means experiencing natural comfort and quiet performance. Soft, lightweight, and responsive, it moves with you and adapts to the environment, offering a sense of ease rather than excess.
